Be A Blue Hens Bookworm
Program Details
Delaware Athletics is teaming up with DE529 and local elementary schools to help encourage the importance of reading among their students (K-5th). The goal of the program is for students to read for 300 total minutes throughout the duration of the program (December 15th to January 22nd). Participating classrooms will receive program bookmarks for students to use to record their books and minutes read. Students who complete the program will be invited to redeem a complimentary ticket to a Delaware Men's or Women's Basketball game or a Men's Lacrosse game to celebrate your reading accomplishment! Teachers who implement the program with their classrooms will also be provided complimentary tickets to the game.
To Participate
The Be A Blue Hens Bookworm program is designed for classrooms as a whole to sign up and participate. If you are a teacher interested in signing up, please click here and fill out the form by Thursday, December 11th. If you are a parent/guardian and want your child's class to participate, please share this website with your child's teacher and suggest they sign up!
Program Timeline
Through Thursday, 12/11: Classroom Participation Forms open for sign-ups by teacher.
Mon 12/15 to Thurs 1/22: Students complete Bookworm program (read for a total of 300 minutes).
No Later Than Thurs 1/22: Teachers fill out final Blue Hens Bookworm Student Participation Form to let us know how many of your students completed the program.
Fri 1/23: Teachers will receive a link to share with parents/guardians of students who completed the program to redeem their complimentary game ticket (and purchase additional discounted tickets if needed).
Program Rewards
Students who complete the program can choose to redeem a complimentary ticket at the listed games, while supplies last:
Saturday, February 28, 2026, 5:00 p.m. Delaware Women's Basketball vs. MTSU
Thursday, March 5, 2026, 7:00 p.m. Delaware Men's Basketball vs. Sam Houston
Saturday, April 4, 2026, 1:00 p.m. Delaware Men's Lacrosse vs. Hobart
Please note, student's parents/guardians must use the link provided by their teacher to redeem their complimentary ticket. Tickets must be reserved in advance.
