University of Delaware Student-Athletes Take Part in Annual Thank-A-Thon
NEWARK, Del. -- Nearly 250 University of Delaware student-athletes took part in the annual UD Athletics Student-Athlete Donor Thank-A-Thon held at the Bob Carpenter Center earlier this month.
Members from each of Delaware’s 21 athletics teams made over 1,300 calls to donors over a four-day period to thank them for their generous support of the Blue Hens Athletics. Also during that period, UD student-athletes wrote nearly 1,000 personal letters to supporters thanking them for their donations.
The Thank-A-Thon continues to be a successful event as Blue Hen donors appreciate hearing directly from the student-athletes they support. The goal of the Thank-A-Thon is to reach out and genuinely thank alumni, parents, and friends who contribute to Delaware Athletics and help meet the annual needs of varsity teams in a personal way.
Additionally, the event helps create a culture of gratitude and philanthropy among Blue Hen student-athletes that will serve them well as future Delaware alumni.
“Anytime we can put our student-athletes in front of those who are most generous to us is beneficial to everyone,” said University of Delaware Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Eric Ziady. “Our donors get to see first-hand the benefits of their investments in our programs. Everything we do is about the development and experiences that our student-athletes enjoy. It’s the generosity of so many of our donors that helps make that happen.”
“It is really important for us as student-athletes to reach out and thank those who are giving this type of support,” said UD field hockey player Maddie O’Beirne, a sophomore environmental studies major from Vienna, Va. (George C. Marshall HS). “Our donors give so much to us and the resources we have available to us as student-athletes is incredible. This is just one of the ways we can thank them. It was an incredible experience.”
