NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware head coach Laura Travis announced Monday the signing of standout Viva Laas to a National Letter of Intent to play women’s tennis for the Blue Hens beginning during the 2018-19 academic year.

“We are excited to welcome Viva to our Blue Hen Tennis Family,” remarked Travis.  “She is the total package.  She has demonstrated success throughout her junior tennis and high school experiences and in terms of her future in collegiate tennis, with her talent, athleticism, and work ethic, the sky is the limit!  Viva excels in the classroom and plans to major in computer science or engineering.  She will bring energy and enthusiasm to our entire University and local community.”

Laas, who resides in Bonita Springs, Fla., will graduate in spring 2018 from Gulf Coast High School. In the past two seasons, the top-flight singles and doubles player led the Sharks to two A3 Conference crowns in addition to the 2017 State Championship title. Laas is a two-time Naples Daily News Tennis Player of the Year and has just one loss each in singles and doubles play in the last two years.
