NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men’s golf head coach Patty Post has announced that Andrew Jacobs and Ryan Pongrac have signed National Letters of Intent with UD and will begin playing for the Blue Hens next fall.

Jacobs attends Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, Va., and Ryan Pongrac attends Ranney School in Tinton Falls, N.J.

Jacobs fired an even par 73-71-144 in the VSGA Jr. Match Play stroke qualifying rounds, and was a finalist in the play portion of the match. Last year he fired a 73-73 to tie for seventh place in the 2016 VISAA Division 1 State Championship, and tied for sixth place in this year’s 2017 Championship with a 73-73. He was a two-time first team VISAA All-State selection and a two-time first team All-Virginia Prep League honoree.

Jacobs shot a three under par 73-68-141 in the River Creek Men’s Invitational event. His career scoring average is 73.1, the ninth best score in Woodberry Forest history.

“We are very excited to have Andrew join our team next fall,” Post said. “He is a very well-rounded individual with solid golf skills and a passion for the sport that will help drive our program. He knows what it takes to be a great teammate and leader, as he was captain of his soccer team at Woodberry. Andrew also has seen much success on the course during his junior career.”

Pongrac was a 2017 Trusted Choice Big I-New Jersey State qualifier with a low score of 69, and moved on to become the 2017 Trusted Choice Big I-State of New Jersey champion with a score of 148. He was the 2017 HJGT South Jersey Junior Champion with a score of 148. Pongrac was a quarterfinalist in the New Jersey State Match Play Championship, and has posted 13 top-10 finishes in regional tournaments.

“We are thrilled to have Ryan added to our roster next year as well. Ryan will bring great golf knowledge and tournament experience with him. As a student at IJGA Academy he spent three years full-time honing his golf game. He is a solid student-athlete who will represent UD well in the future,” Post said.
