Newark, DE (February 9, 2018) – Teamwork is a core value of the University of Delaware Athletics’ department.

That core value has brought an incredible opportunity for a Delaware student. The Athletic Department’s Trademark Licensing program has teamed with the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies on campus to send a Fashion Merchandising student to the prestigious New York Fashion Week this weekend, February 9-11.

The Collegiate Experience at NYFW: The Shows provides a behind-the-scenes look at the fashion industry, including entry into fashion shows by Dione Lee and Son Jung Wan, interaction with leaders in the industry, and access to a variety of partner experiences.

“The ability to offer this opportunity to a Delaware student is very exciting.  We were able to make this a reality due to the great partnership between the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies, Office of Communications and Marketing, and Athletics,” shared Rachel Duffy, Director of Trademarks and Licensing at the University of Delaware.

“We were blown away by the excitement of the students that participated in the fall and the quality of the interaction and insight they received through the program. It was the student enrichment experience of a lifetime, and we knew we had to expand the opportunity to more schools,” said Cory Moss, SVP and Managing Director of IMG College Licensing. “Our goal is to help elevate our partners’ licensing programs so they can provide these types of benefits to their campuses beyond what a traditional licensing program can provide.”

Institutions participating in February’s NYFW: The Shows Collegiate Experience include Arkansas, Delaware, Illinois, Louisville, Marshall, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon State, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M. The students, who aspire to a career in the fashion industry, were selected to participate through a variety of criteria at their respective institutions, including applications, fashion blogging and social media, and academic performance.

“We are thrilled to partner with our colleagues in the College division to help students along their chosen career path through this one-of-a-kind learning lab at NYFW: The Shows,” said Catherine Bennett, SVP and Managing Director of Fashion Events for IMG. “We are committed fostering catalytic educational opportunities for future leaders in the fashion industry.”

The students are being asked to chronicle their experiences through social media and share their learnings with other students when they return to their campuses. NYFW: The Shows runs February 8-14 in New York, with the Collegiate Experience taking place February 9-11.
