athlete photoNEWARK, Del. -- Three sophomores on the University of Delaware women’s rowing squad have been selected to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete team.

Shannon Bell, an elementary education major from Scotch Plains, N.J. (Bishop Ahr High School), Jen Majcher, an exercise science major from Lutz, Fla. (Steinbrenner HS), and Jamie Noce, a fine arts major from Baldwinville, N.Y. (Baker HS) were among the NCAA Division I student-athletes honored on the team.

athlete photoTo be eligible, student-athletes must have at least sophomore eligibility, hold a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average, and have rowed in at least 75 percent of their team’s races.

All three played key roles in a successful season for Blue Hens under first-year head coach Kevin Gruber in 2012-13.

Bell (top right) was a key member of the Delaware Varsity Fours crew throughout the year and helped the group place fourth at the Colonial Athletic Association championships, place fourth in their heat at the Dad Vail Regatta, and capture first place at the Bucknell Quad Meet.

athlete photoMajcher (above left) was a member of the Junior Varsity Eights boat and enjoyed her best finishes with a fourth place showing at the Occoquan Sprints and a fifth place finish in the third level final at the Knecht Cup.

Noce (at right) was the coxswain for the Delaware Second Varsity Eights crew that placed sixth at the CAA championships in May as well as fourth in their heat at the Dad Vail Regatta.

All three are Dean’s List students and two-time members of the Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll .
