BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Delaware field hockey team scored first, but No. 16 Boston University outlasted the Blue Hens, 2-1, in overtime Monday afternoon at New Balance Field.

Sophomore Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany) put the Hens (1-1) on board in the eighth minute from the right side off of an assist from junior Rebecca Pepper (Lewes, Del.).

Both teams remained scoreless over the next 55-plus minutes before Sofi Laurito notched a goal with less than five minutes left in the game to force overtime.

The Terriers (2-0) picked up the golden goal from Hester van der Laan in the 73rd minute for the 2-1 victory.

POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Rolf van de Kerkhof – “Our team fought hard and played strong defense throughout the game.  Playing a ranked Boston squad opened our eyes to the importance of improving ball possession and controlling game tempo.  These are great tools for us to improve our performance moving forward.  I believe this weekend was very valuable to our team and we will be better because of it by the time we open at home against Central Michigan on Friday.”
