McBurney, who earned her bachelor's degree in communications with a concentration in public relations from East Carolina University in May, 2012, joins the Blue Hens after serving last season as Athletic Marketing Assistant at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

As an undergraduate, she worked four years at the Atlantic Coast Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments and at the football championship game, assisting in customer service, as a media liaison, press conference manager, and mascot handler.

While at East Carolina, McBurney was a four-year Dean's List student, was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Service Sorority, served as executive board member of the ECU Student Pirate Club, and was vice president of recruitment for the ECU Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

She will reside in the Newark area.
