Scott Selheimer begins his 32nd year with the University of Delaware department of athletics and recreation services in 2016-17.
Selheimer joined the UD staff as an assistant in 1985 and has served as sports information director since 1992. He was promoted to the position of assistant athletics director for media relations in 2007.
He oversees the publicity for the University of Delaware's NCAA Division I 21-sport athletics program.
Selheimer's primary responsibilities include serving as athletics liaison with the local, regional, and national media, working and traveling with the Blue Hen football and assisting with the men's and women's basketball teams, preparing press releases on athletes and coaches, compiling statistics, coordinating and updating the University of Delaware athletics website, and producing media publications.
He also serves as the media relations contact for the Delaware men's lacrosse, women's soccer, and women's cross country and track & field programs.
A native of Ambler, Pa., Selheimer is a 1985 graduate of Millersville (Pa.) University where he earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing with a minor in journalism.
Since arriving at the University of Delaware in 1985, Selheimer has won several awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America for his writing and media publications. He edited the 1990 and 1997 University of Delaware Football Media Guides that were judged "Best in the Nation."
In addition, his 1991, 1992 and 1993 football guides were judged "Second in the Nation" and he co-edited four football guides that have been rated "Third in the Nation." He edited the 1998 University of Delaware Gameday Football Program that was judged "Fourth in the Nation."
Selheimer is a member of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and will begin his 13th year as a member of the Academic All-American Committee in 2016-17. He previously served as assistant chair of the CoSIDA Charity Committee and served three years on the CoSIDA Publications Contest Committee.
In June, 2009, Selheimer was honored with the Irving T. Marsh Service Bureau Award at the ECAC-SIDA convention. He was also honored at the CoSIDA Convention in July, 2010 with a 25-Year Award.
He previously served two years as President of the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association and is also a former president of the East Coast Conference Sports Information Directors. He will begin his sixth year on the CoSIDA University Division Management Advisory Committee in 2014-15, serving as a representative of the Colonial Athletic Association.
He is active with New Castle Presbyterian Church, serving as a Trustee from 2006-2014, and has served as a youth baseball coach and umpire in Newark.
Selheimer and his wife, Amy, an assistant principal at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in the Christina School District, reside in Newark. They have a son, Kyle, 23, who is currently a sophomore at the University of Delaware and works as a student assistant with UD athletics media relations.
