"We are pleased to add Jessica to the Student Services for Athletes staff," said Director of Student Services for Athletes Tim Morrissey. "She brings a strong background and passion for working with student-athletes to UD. We feel fortunate to add another piece of academic support for our student-athletes."

Spangler earned her undergraduate degree in human development from Virginia Tech in 2004 and her master's degree in counselor education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006.

She was a four-year member of the women's soccer team at Virginia Tech, was team Offensive Most Valuable Player twice, and was a member of the Big East Conference All-Academic team.

She began her career as an academic mentor and led a career development group for student-athletes at the University of Richmond in 2005 before serving as an academic advisor in the College of Humanities and Science at VCU in 2004-05.

Spangler then moved on to the University of Maryland where she served as an assistant director with the Academic Support and Career Development Unit at the University of Maryland. While at Maryland, she provided academic and career development support to the Terrapin women's basketball, men's golf, and men's and women's track and field teams.

Student Services for Athletes promotes student-athletes success by offering a broad array of services that assist with their academic and personal adjustment to the University of Delaware, provides critical student services, including counseling, tutoring, educational and developmental workshops and programs, and helps to integrate the academic and social experiences of student-athletes.

Spangler and her husband, Scott, reside in Wallingford, Pa. They welcomed their first child, Scott, on Oct. 6, 2012.
