Jessica B. Spangler was named academic coordinator for the University of Delaware Student Services for Athletes program in August, 2009 and currently serves as a learning specialist within the department. 

In her position at Delaware, Spangler (formerly Myers) assists Blue Hen student-athletes with their academics, including meetings on time management, study skills, test-taking skills, and coordination of tutors; provide educational, developmental, and career counseling to student-athletes; review and monitor academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes; supervise tutorial programs for student-athletes; serve as liaison to designated sports teams and coaches; and teach orientation courses for student-athletes.

Spangler earned her undergraduate degree in human development from Virginia Tech in 2004 and her master's degree in counselor education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006.

She was a four-year member of the women's soccer team at Virginia Tech, was team Offensive Most Valuable Player twice, and was a member of the Big East Conference All-Academic team.

She began her career as an academic mentor and led a career development group for student-athletes at the University of Richmond in 2005 before serving as an academic advisor in the College of Humanities and Science at VCU in 2004-05.

Spangler then moved on to the University of Maryland where she served as an assistant director with the Academic Support and Career Development Unit at the University of Maryland. While at Maryland, she provided academic and career development support to the Terrapin women's basketball, men's golf, and men's and women's track and field teams.

Student Services for Athletes promotes student-athletes success by offering a broad array of services that assist with their academic and personal adjustment to the University of Delaware, provides critical student services, including counseling, tutoring, educational and developmental workshops and programs, and helps to integrate the academic and social experiences of student-athletes.

Spangler and her husband, Scott, reside in Wallingford, Pa. They have two sons, Scott and Thomas, and a daughter, Carolina.
