Courtney Butterworth begins her ninth season as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Delaware in 2013-14.

Butterworth, who has primary duties with the Blue Hen volleyball, women's lacrosse, and men's and women's swimming and diving programs, returned to Delaware after serving as assistant athletic trainer at Wilmington (Del.) University during 2007-08.

She was an assistant athletic trainer at Delaware from 2004-06, working with the Blue Hen men's soccer, women's basketball and women's lacrosse teams. She was also an Approved Clinical Instructor who supervised athletic training students and served as a teaching assistant.

Butterworth, who graduated from Delaware with a bachelor of science degree in athletic training in 2003, was the head athletic trainer for Smyrna High School during the 2003-04 school year. She earned her master of science degree from California University of Pennsylvania in 2007.

A member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association since 2002, Butterworth resides in Newark.
