GRAND LAKE, Colo. – For the first time since 2007, the University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team is represented on the IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team in sophomore Caitlin McCartney, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.

McCartney was recognized for the second time by the IWLCA after earning second team accolades as a freshman.  Also earning honors for the second time in her career was senior Angela Biciocchi, who was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team.  The defender was also tabbed as a Second Team selection as a junior.  Earlier this month, the Colonial Athletic Association picked the duo as All-CAA First Team members.

The last Blue Hen to be named to the IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team was Katie Muth in 2007.

"It is awesome to see our top athletes receive recognize for their talent and ability to lead on game day," commented Delaware head coach Kateri Linville. "We are proud of Angela and Caitlin's accomplishments."

McCartney, the 2012 CAA Rookie of the Year, led Delaware in numerous categories during her sophomore campaign.  The midfielder posted a team-best 46 points with 41 goals, the most for UD since the 2008 season, while collecting nine hat tricks in 14 games played.  McCartney also guided the team with 34 draw controls while finishing second with 28 groundballs and 16 caused turnovers.

The Doylestown, Pa. native led the league in goals per game (2.93), which is good for 26th nationally, and game-winning goals (four).  McCartney finished fourth with 3.29 points per game.

Biciocchi, the team captain, anchored a Blue Hen defense that ranks second in the CAA and 15th nationally with 8.56 goals against per game, the lowest average at UD since 2009.  She led the team with 35 groundballs and was third with 15 caused turnovers.

The Potomac, Md. native helped guide UD to the first win over a ranked opponent since 2009 with a 10-9 victory over No. 11 Loyola, the highest ranked win in program history since 2000.

A total of 128 Division I student-athletes were honored as a part of an All-Regional team.  These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced May 17.  The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on May 25 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.

Delaware recently completed its most successful campaign in recent years after finishing the season with a 10-6 overall record while narrowly missing the CAA tournament with a 4-3 mark.
