CENTREVILLE, Mass. – The awards keep rolling in for former University of Delaware women’s basketball standout Elena Delle Donne as she was named late Thursday evening as the Robbins/ECAC 2013 Division I Scholar Athlete Award winner.
Delle Donne will be recognized, in addition to Siena College’s O.D. Anosike, at the 2013 ECAC Honors Dinner, held in conjunction with the 25th Annual ECAC Convention and Trade Show from Sept. 29 – Oct. 1 in North Falmouth, Mass.
The ECAC Scholar-Athlete Awards honor the outstanding academic and athletic achievements of student-athletes representing ECAC schools in Division I, II and III. One male and one female athlete from each division are selected based on extraordinary achievements in academics, athletics and community service.
The candidate must have earned a cumulative minimum overall GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and must have reached sophomore athletics and academic status. Additionally, the candidate must be a starter or significant reserve in a particular sport and must compete in at least 50 percent of the contests in that sport and other factors such as community service, exemplary citizenship or other extracurricular activities are taken into consideration.
“It is truly an honor to have been named the 2013 ECAC Division I Female Scholar Athlete of the year,” said Delle Donne. “I have always valued the importance of success in the classroom as well as on the basketball court and am humbled to be receiving recognition for that success. I want to thank everyone involved in selecting me as the recipient of this award.”
Delle Donne was the second overall pick in April’s WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky and is a three-time WNBA Rookie of the Month honoree.
