INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.  --  Samantha K. Huge, who serves as the University of Delaware Deputy Director of Athletics and Recreation Services, Senior Woman Administrator, and Special Assistant to the President, has been appointed to the NCAA’s Division I Women’s Basketball Issues Committee.

The committee is made up of 16 voting members, including eight members appointed by and representing FBS, six members appointed by and representing FCS and Division I and two women's basketball student-athletes, one representing FBS and one representing Division I or FCS.

Joining Huge as new members on the committee are Illinois State Deputy Director of Athletics Leanna Bordner; University of Texas Senior Associate Director of Athletics Kathy Harston; Pac-12 Conference Senior Associate Commissioner  Gloria Nevarez; and Georgia Tech women’s basketball student-athlete Shayla Bivens.

This is Huge’s third appointment to an NCAA Committee during her career. She is a former member of the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance and of the NCAA Amateurism Clearinghouse Advisory Group.

Huge is currently in her fifth year at the University, including her second year as Deputy Director of Athletics & Recreation Services and her first year as Senior Woman Administrator.  Earlier this month, University President Patrick Harker announced that Huge was assuming the additional title of special assistant to the president. In that new role, Huge is responsible for managing special projects involving athletics, development, legal and regulatory compliance, and facilities planning.

When former UD Director of Athletics Bernard Muir was hired as AD at Stanford University in July, 2012, Huge served as Delaware's Interim Director of Athletics for just over two months before current AD Eric Ziady was hired on Oct. 10, 2012. She began her career at Delaware in 2009 as Senior Associate Director of Athletics and was promoted to Deputy Director of Athletics & Recreation Services in September, 2011.

Huge graduated in 1992 from Gordon College, where she played varsity basketball for four years. She went on to earn her law degree from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in North Carolina in 1997.

Prior to her appointment at the University of Delaware, Huge was the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance at Georgetown University for three years where she directed all activities of the Athletics Compliance Office.  Prior to that, Huge was the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance for four years at Wake Forest University and also worked in the athletics compliance offices of the Southern Conference, the University of Illinois, and Michigan State University.
