NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women’s soccer suffered its first Colonial Athletic Assocition (CAA) loss of 2013 season as James Madison defeated the Blue Hens 2-1 at Delaware Mini-Stadium. JMU handed the Blue Hens their first loss in seven games.

The Blue Hens scored the opening goal of the match in the 29th minute when senior midfielder Dianna Marinaro found sophomore defender Maddy Parker off a free kick. Marinaro centered the ball to Parker who ripped a shot from 35 yards out into the top left corner of the goal. The goal is the first of the season for Parker while the assist is Marinaro’s third.

The Dukes tied the contest, 1-1 with 16:54 remaining in the match when Becky Sparks found the net after a shot from 20 yards out.

With less than one minute remaining in the contest, JMU’s Ashley Herndon put a shot passed Blue Hen keeper Jess Levy to hand Delaware its first home loss of the season.

"Tonight was an exciting match that unfortunately did not go our way," said Blue Hen head coach Scott Grzenda. "Maddy Parker scored a tremendous goal from 35 yards out and I felt we played a strong defensive game. Allegra and the rest of the backs kept them in check but to their credit they put in two screamers of their own. Tomorrow we take care of the bumps and bruises and start preparing for W&M."

Senior keeper Jessica Levy had four saves against the Dukes. Levy is now 6-4 on the season.

Delaware now owns an overall record of 7-5-0 while JMU improves to 9-4. Both squads a 1-1-0 in CAA play.
