NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men’s soccer team dropped its first home contest of the 2013 season as the Blue Hens fell 2-1 to Drexel Saturday evening.

Freshman Guillermo Delgado found the back of the net in the 69th minute of the match to bring the Blue Hens within one goal of Drexel. Senior defender Price Nartey tallied the assist of Delgado’s score but the single goal was not enough for the Blue Hens.

Drexel took an early lead over the Blue Hens when Michele Pataia scored his first goal of the season at 18:18 of the first half. Skylar Olson registered the only assist on the Dragons first goal.

The Dragons second goal came with 22:33 remaining in the match. Nathan Page tallied his fourth goal of the season for Drexel to give the Dragons a two-goal advantage.

Delgado’s tally came less than three minutes later but Delaware could not overcome the one goal deficit to have its comeback effort stifled by the Dragons in the 2-1 loss.

"One of the goals we have always had for the UD men's soccer program is to have our staff, recent UD soccer alum or player in the local soccer community 7 days a week," said Blue Hen head coach Ian Hennessy. "We have done this year in and year out and those ties are starting to bear fruit. Our attendance again was phenomenal, standing room only, and the only disappointment I have is that we couldn't quite get them a victory tonight."

I give credit to Drexel, I thought they were better than us overall and deserved the win. If we had won tonight I believe we would have clinched a playoff spot, but we will do our best to clinch that next weekend instead."

Junior keeper Borja Barbero registered eight saves in loss. Barbero now owns a 9-3 overall record going 2-2 in league play.

The Blue Hens are now 10-3 overall this season with a 2-2 CAA record. Drexel improves to 3-0-1 in conference action with a 7-5-2 season record.
