University of Delaware Swimming & Diving Highlighted by Diving Unit In First Day at CAA Pod Meet
HARRISONBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished day one of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) pod meet Friday at James Madison University's Savage Natatorium.
The Delaware men competed against William & Mary and UNC Wilmington while the women faced off against James Madison, William & Mary and UNC Wilmington.
The Delaware diving unit totaled five top-three finishes in the 1-Meter and 3-Meter events. For the Delaware men, Pat McCann placed second in the 1-Meter (258.15) and third in the 3-Meter (246.30) events while Brian Green earned the top-finish in the 3-Meter (268.60). Kristina Congdon led the Delaware women’s diving unit, finishing first in the 1-Meter (250.65) and second in the 3-Meter (253.35).
Individually, the Blue Hen men’s swimming squad was led by Alex Tooley, who finished first in the 400 IM (4:06.97), registering the only first place swimming finish by any Delaware swimmer throughout the day's events.
The Delaware women were led by individuals Shea Solt and Hailey Farrell as the two individuals each tallied a third and fifth place finish. Solt finished third in the 400 IM (4:41.44) and fifth in the 1,650 Freestyle (17:41.39). In the exact same events, Farrell finished fifth in the 400 IM (4:41.44) and third in the 400 IM (4:40.32).
The 200 Freestyle Relay team proved to be the most successful relay for the Delaware women as its garnered a second place finish (1:36.34). The relay team was composed of Maggie Tracy, Mary Kay Harris, Dominique Montoya, and Morgan Whyte.
Three other Delaware men earned top-three finishers at the CAA pod meet. Cory Camp placed second in the 1,650 Freestyle event (16:34.31) while Everett Albert and Matt Marquez each brought home third place finishes. Albert finished the 200 Freestyle in 1:44.22 while Marquez registered a time of 1:55.10 in the 200 Fly.
Delaware will continue competition in the CAA pod meet Saturday at 8 a.m.
