Michaela Patzner and Freshman Meghan Winesett Garner CAA Weekly Field Hockey Awards
RICHMOND, Va. – After clinching the regular season Colonial Athletic Association championship this past weekend, the CAA honored University of Delaware field hockey sophomore Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany) as its Player of the Week and freshman Meghan Winesett (Centreville, Va.) as the Rookie of the Week.
The duo were each key to Delaware’s 4-0 victory at Drexel last Friday to grab the regular season CAA title before the Hens (14-4; 6-0 CAA) defeated Villanova, 6-1, in the regular season finale.
Patzner tallied three goals and one assist over the two games. Additionally, she collected the game-winning goal in each contest. Patzner is currently 23rd in the NCAA with 1.89 points per game and 25th nationally with 0.78 goals per contest. She leads the Hens with 34 points (CAA leader) and 14 goals (tied for CAA lead) and currently is tops on the Delaware active career leaders list with 21 career goals and 49 points.
Winesett gathered one goal and two key assists in Delaware’s two wins. She leads the Hens with eight assists (second CAA) and is third on the team with 22 points.
Patzner was previously named the CAA Player of the Week for Sept. 17 and Oct. 8. Winesett earned Rookie of the Week honors for the third time as she was previously recognized Sept. 24 and Oct. 22.
“Our program has been fortunate to receive individual, class and, most importantly, team awards and honors this season,” remarked third-year Delaware head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. “As part of our team’s success, we were fortunate again to receive CAA honors. Both ‘Ela’ [Michaela Patzner] and Meghan, like every single one of our players, have continued to improve individually and with that, have raised their contribution levels to our team’s performance and success.”
