Delaware’s Trevor Sasek Named Colonial Athletic Association Football Offensive Player of the Week
RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware senior quarterback Trevor Sasek has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Football Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Blue Hens’ 32-31 upset win over Towson last Saturday evening.
Sasek’s award marked the second straight week and the third time this season that a Blue Hen player has been honored by the league. Redshirt freshman punter Eric Enderson was named Rookie of the Week on Oct. 27 for his efforts in a 35-13 win over Rhode Island while senior wide receiver Rob Jones was named Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 7 for his efforts vs. Delaware State.
Sasek, a 6-6, 225-pounder from Limerick, Pa. (Spring-Ford High School), made the most of his first start of the season and the fourth of his career, leading then No. 21 Delaware back from 21 points down in the fourth quarter to top No. 7 ranked Towson, 32-31. Sasek was starting in place of junior Trent Hurley, who did not see action due to an injury suffered in the win over Rhode Island Oct. 26.
He set career-highs with 34 of 46 passing for 330 yards and three scores, which included two touchdown tosses and the game-winning two point conversion over the final 48 seconds of play. Sasek's 34 completions also marked the third-most in school history. He tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jerel Harrison in the first quarter and added scoring passes of 11 yards to Michael Johnson with 48 seconds left and three yards to Jones with 19 seconds remaining.
For the season Sasek has completed 39 of 57 passes for 418 yards and four touchdowns with just one interception.
Also honored by the CAA were Defensive Player of the Week Luke Rhodes (William & Mary); Special Teams Player of the Week Brandon Jordi (Richmond); and Rookie of the Week Christophe Mulumba (Maine).
Delaware (7-2, 4-1 CAA), ranked No. 15 in this week’s Sports Network Top 25 poll, will return home this Saturday, Nov. 9, to host No. 23 William & Mary (6-3, 3-2 CAA) at 3 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
