#17 Blue Hens Vie For Third CAA Tournament Championship Sunday at Rullo Stadium Against Northeastern

NEWARK, Del. – For the third time in 11 years, the University of Delaware field hockey squad aims for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Championship as the #17 Blue Hens host Northeastern at 1 p.m. Sunday at Rullo Stadium.

Top-seeded UD (15-4; 6-0 CAA) earned a spot in the finals after defeating fourth-seeded William & Mary, 4-2, Friday evening.  Northeastern, the third seed in the tournament, picked up a 2-0 victory later in the evening against Drexel.

ADMISSION
General admission for the 2013 CAA Field Hockey Championships is $7 for adults and $5 for youth (18 and younger) each day.  All participating institution’s students are admitted free of charge with a valid student ID.

PARKING ADVISORY
Due to multiple athletics events Sunday, parking at the David Nelson Sports Complex will be limited.  Fans are advised to arrive early.

HEN SCRATCHINGS
     ·  UD has reached the 15-win mark for just the sixth time in 43 seasons of play.  The most wins for a Blue Hen squad in a single season is 16, a mark recorded three times (1988; 1982; 1978).
     ·  Delaware has outscored the last five opponents, 23-3.  Additionally, UD has posted six shutouts this season.
     ·  The Hens have won a season-best six straight games.
     ·  UD is 83-61 (.576) all-time at Rullo Stadium and 9-1 this year.
     ·  With three points against William & Mary on Friday night, Esmée Peet broke the Delaware record for points in a single-season by a freshman.  Peet currently has registered 27 points off of 11 goals and five assists.
     ·  Peet was named Thursday evening the CAA Player and Rookie of the Year.  She is the first UD field hockey player to receive either CAA award.  She’s also just the third player in CAA history, and first since 1997, to win both awards in the same season.  She also earned First Team and All-Rookie team honors.
     ·  Head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof was named the CAA Co-Coach of the Year alongside William & Mary’s Tess Ellis.  He was previously named the 2009 Big Ten Coach of the Year.
     ·  Also earning CAA honors were Michaela Patzner (first team), Allie Mikelson (second team), Clare O’Malley (second team), Meghan Winesett (second team; All-Rookie team), Sarah Scher (second team) and Kasey Prettyman (All-Academic).  Delaware previously had six players honored by the CAA in 2004.
     ·  Two freshmen (Winesett, Peet) have collected at least 25 points this season.
     ·  Patzner is atop the career active leaders list with 22 goals and 52 points.  Junior Kelsey McKee is second with 20 goals and nine assists for 49 points while Prettyman is third with 21 goals and five assists for 47 points.
     ·  Dating to last season, senior goalie Sarah Scher has started 24 straight games for Delaware.  She has played all 1333:05 minutes for the Blue Hens this season and has collected 87 saves with 27 goals allowed.  Scher is 11th in Delaware history with 174 career saves.  Stephanie Judefind (1999-02) is 10th all-time with 212 saves.

SERIES INFORMATION
     ·  Northeastern holds a 17-6 lead over Delaware all-time, but the Blue Hens shutout the Huskies, 3-0, at NU’s Dedham Field just two weeks ago.
