PHILADELPHIA -- For the second straight day, University of Delaware football standout Zach Kerr has earned a spot on an All-American team.

Kerr, who was named a third team All-American by Beyond Sports Network on Tuesday, went one better on Wednesday as he was selected to The Sports Network second team All-American squad.

The Sports Network team is considered one of the most prestigious of the post-season All-American teams and is selected by the TSN staff in consultation with league athletics media relations directors.

Kerr’s award marks the 12th straight year that Delaware has had a player honored on The Sports Network All-American team. He also becomes the first UD defensive tackle to earn All-American notice since Tom Parks was honored on the TSN team in 2004.

Kerr, a 6-2, 310 lb. history major from Gaithersburg, Md. (Quince Orchard High School) was one of 102 student-athletes honored on the three teams.

Delaware recently completed it season under first-year head coach Dave Brock with a 7-5 overall mark and a 4-4 slate in CAA play, good for a tie for fifth place in the league standings. The Blue Hens received votes in every The Sports Network Top 25 poll during the season, climbing as high as 15th on Nov. 4.

Kerr, a second-year transfer from Maryland, proved to be one of the league’s top interior defensive lineman once again this fall. A co-captain, Kerr recorded 57 tackles (28 solo), including 5.5 tackles for loss (29 yards), 3.5 sacks (24 yard), two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He ranked fourth among all CAA down linemen in tackles.

Kerr, who also earned second team All-CAA honors in 2012, collected four or more tackles nine times during the 2013 campaign, including a career-high eight each in victories over Albany and NCAA national semifinalist Towson.

He was among 11 Colonial Athletic Association student-athletes named to the TSN All-American teams, joining first teamers Eric Pike (OT) and Terrance West (RB) of Towson, William & Mary safety Jerome Couplin, Maine cornerback Kendall James, and James Madison linebacker Stephon Robertson.

Another five student-athletes were selected to the second team, including Kerr, William & Mary offensive lineman Matt Crisafi, Towson fullback Emmanuel Holder and cornerback Jordan Love, and Maine tight end Justin Perillo. Towson linebacker Telvion Clark rounded out the league’s 11-member list as a third team honoree.
