NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s cross country squad announced its 2013 schedule Thursday afternoon with the Blue Hens set to host two invitationals at White Clay Creek State Park.
Head coach Wendy McFarlane, who will begin her second season at the helm of the Blue Hens, will welcome back all but three runners from its 30-person roster a year ago, including seniors Lindsay Prettyman and Michele Lambert and junior Nicole Daly.
Prettyman, a first team Capital One/CoSIDA District 2 All-Academic selection, led the team in every race last fall and was 17th at the Colonial Athletic Association championships. Lambert placed 20th at the CAA meet while Daly was 27th overall at the conference meet.
The Blue Hens will compete in eight events this coming fall, including two home meets. Delaware will host the annual Delaware Invitational on Sept. 14 and host the Blue-Gold Invitational on Oct. 12. Both events will be held at White Clay Creek State Park and will begin with the women's race at 10:30 a.m. followed by the men's race at 11:15 a.m.
Delaware will open the season on Aug. 30 when the Blue Hens travel to Emmitsburg, Md. for the Mt. St. Mary’s Invitational followed by the Delaware Invitational on Sept. 14. The Hens will close out the month at the Towson Invitational on Sept. 21.
After a week break, the Hens will return to action Oct. 5 at the Paul Short Invitational followed by the Blue-Gold Invitational on Oct. 12. After a two-week hiatus, the Hens will compete at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at Towson on Nov. 2. The Hens placed third at the meet in 2012, the team’s best conference finish since 2001.
Two November meets will close out the season as the Blue Hens will compete at the NCAA District II Championships Nov. 15 at Lehigh and at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships at Van Cortlandt State Park in Bronx, N.Y.
