ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team posted a 298 team score to finish the day in sixth place out of 10 teams on Saturday following the first day of the season-opening Navy Fall Classic.

Towson leads the team standings with a 280 score following the first round, while Georgetown is second at 290 and Saint Joseph’s sits in third place with a 292 team score. The College of Charleston is fourth at 293, followed by North Dakota State at 296 and the Blue Hens.

UD senior co-captain Dan Costenbader (at right) carded a two over par 37-36-73 on the par 71, 6,530-yard USNA Course to finish the day tied for 10th place in the individual standings. Fellow captain, junior Niño Rosal, finished one shot behind Costenbader by recording a three over par 36-38-74 to end the day in a tie for 16th place.

Freshman Joe Visalli opened his Blue Hen career by carding a four over par 38-37-75 to tie for 21st place, while sophomore Kyle Martin fired a five over par 38-38-76 to tie for 27th place. Freshman Marc Oliveri, who was playing as an individual, and junior Fraser Graham also ended the day tied for 21st place as both players shot five over par 37-39-76 on Saturday.

Joe Gunerman of Towson leads the field with a four under par 31-36-67, while three other players are one shot back heading into Sunday’s final round.
