LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. -- The University of Delaware women’s golf squad posted its lowest team round of the tournament with a 310 on Tuesday to finish in ninth place out of 14 teams at the 35th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.
The Blue Hens, wrapping up their 2012 fall season, posted a three-round team score of 941 to finish ninth. Tournament host Florida International easily captured the team title with an 876 score, while Cincinnati came in second place at 902. Bradley finished third at 904, while Boston College was fourth at 905 and Daytona State rounded out the top five at 907.
Blue Hen sophomore Annie Bowlsby carded a seven over par 79 during her final round on the par 72, 6,261-yard Cypress Links course at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, finishing in a tie for 36th place in the individual standings with a 19 over par score of 75-81-79-235. Bowlsby birdied the first hole and recorded pars on nine holes, finishing her round at 38-41-79.
Fellow sophomore Andrea Slane also tied for 36th place with a 19 over par 81-78-76-235 after she fired a five over par 76 during Tuesday’s round. Starting on the ninth hole, Slane moved to one under for the day after consecutive birdies on 13 and 14. She then continued her impressive round with six straight pars, before three bogeys and a double bogey on five put her at five over for the day.
Sophomore Baralee Theinthong carded an eight over par 80 during her final round, ending in a tie for 45th place with a 22 over par score of 80-78-80-238. Theinthong posted her lone birdie of the round on the third hole, and also had 10 pars during the day.
Senior Frida Nilsson (at right) fired a three over par 75 on Tuesday, the lowest round by a Blue Hen, to end up in 49th place at 80-85-75-240, 24 over par. Nilsson started on the 10th hole and was two over par through 13, but rallied with three pars and consecutive birdies on 16 and 17 to finish the back nine at even par. She bogeyed the third through fifth holes, but posted pars on the other six holes to conclude the front nine at three over.
UD freshman Vimonthip Benjasupawan carded a 10 over par 82 during her final round, finishing in a tie for 50th place with a 25 over par 80-79-82-241. Benjasupawan birdied 18 during her day which included eight pars, and ended up at 40-42-82.
Meghan MacLaren of Florida International earned medalist honors with a one over par 76-71-70-217, while So Young Hwang of Daytona State finished two shots back.
The tournament concludes the fall season for the Blue Hens, who finished among the top 10 in three of five invitationals. Delaware opens its 2013 spring slate on March 17-19 at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary.
