NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- The University of Delaware women’s golf team will open its 2013 spring season this weekend as the Blue Hens compete in the Mount Vintage Invitational hosted by Purdue University at the Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club.

The tournament opens on Saturday with two rounds beginning at 8 a.m., while Sunday’s third and final round will start at 9 a.m. Six teams will participate in the tournament including the Blue Hens, the 10th-ranked Boilermakers, Georgia Regents University, Iowa State, IUPUI, and Coastal Carolina.

Delaware, led by second-year head coach Patty Post, competed in five tournaments during its fall season, posting three top 10 finishes including a season-best fourth at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational. Sophomore Andrea Slane competed in three invitationals for the Blue Hens and led the squad with a 78.88 average round, while freshman Nathalie Filler (at right)was second on the team with an 80.50 stroke average.

Following the Mount Vintage Invitational, the Blue Hens will compete in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. on Mar. 17-19 and the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga. on Mar. 25-26.

Delaware will also participate in the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C. on Apr. 1-2, and the UNCW Seahawk Invitational at River Landing Golf Course in Wilmington, N.C. on Apr. 6-7. The Blue Hens will close out their season by competing in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at St James Plantation in Southport, N.C. on Apr. 19-21.
