PRINCETON, N.J.  --  Lindsay Prettyman set a school record by winning the 3,000 meters and Latoya James and Betsy Erlanger were both the top collegiate finishers in their events to lead the University of Delaware women’s indoor track & field team at the Princeton Tiger Open Saturday at Princeton’s Jadwyn Gym.

Delaware posted those three first place finishes, four second place showings, and four third place finishes to highlight the non-scoring meet.

“We had great team energy today,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. “I was pleased with the effort we put into the meet. We are developing nicely as we expect bigger and better performances as the season moves along. Lindsay Prettyman had a great day. She showed her confidence to dominate the 3,000 meters with a nine-second school record and an ECAC qualifying time. She has matured so much in her events. It is a pleasure to watch her race.”

Prettyman captured the 3,000 meter championship as she finished the race in a time of 9:42.10, shattering the old UD mark of 9:51.33 set by Michele Lambert last season and qualifying her for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) meet at Princeton in March.

Also taking home first place finishes for the Blue Hens were James (at left) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.85) and Erlanger in the 1,000 meters (3:07.36). Both James and Erlanger were the top collegiate finishers in those races as former college runners and current club team members won those events on Saturday.

Second place finishes for the Hens were delivered by the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Toresha Foster, Breanna Nicholson, Alexandra Carroll, and Kelley Donovan (3:57.53), by Lindsay Guptill in the 800 meters (2:26.80), by Nicholson in the 400 meters (59.04), and by Paige Morris in the triple jump (39-2 1/4). Morris’ leap in the triple jump qualified her for the ECAC meet.

Placing third for the Blue Hens were Mellissa Mazzo in the 1,000 meters (3:07.38), Donovan in the 400 meters (59.87), Foster in the 200 meters (25.48), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Ade Togun, Alexandra Muro, Michele Simmons, and Hannah Pepper (4:03.96).

Among the Delaware top 10 finishers was Haley Gorenflo (at right), who placed 10th in the pole vault (10-10).

Delaware will continue action next weekend when the Blue Hens take part in the John Covert Classic at Lehigh University.
