TOWSON, Md. – Multiple players collected career games Sunday afternoon as the University of Delaware women’s basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 69-44 triumph over Towson University at the brand-new SECU Arena.

Freshman Hannah Jardine (at right; St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada) set a career-high of 13 points while going .750 (6-for-8) from the field and 1-1 from behind the arc. The forward added a team-best eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in 38 minutes of action for the Hens.

Alecia Bell (Newport News, Va.) also posted a career day from the field as the sophomore tallied 10 points in addition to four rebounds, two steals and an assist.

As a team, Delaware (13-6, 5-3 CAA) dished out a season-best 24 assists and were led by redshirt freshman Jodi Salyer’s career-high seven assists.  The Roanoke, Va. native added two points and three rebounds in 35 minutes of play.

Redshirt sophomore Joy Caracciolo (bottom left; Manassas, Va.) also had a solid game for UD with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.

The Blue Hens shot a season-high 58 percent (29-for-50) from the field while going 3-for-6 from three-point range.

Senior Kelsey Buchanan (South Riding, Va.) led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field.

POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Tina Martin – “Everybody contributed today and they all played together as a team.  Defensively, we’re starting to get an idea of what it takes.  Yes, we still have our lapses, but it’s so nice to see this young team starting to gel.  Now we just have to keep rolling, clawing and fighting.  This young team is learning and they’re a work in progress.  Today was a good day for this group of youngsters.”

Sophomore Alecia Bell – “I’m becoming more comfortable with my role, not as an offensive player, but as the person with a defensive role.  I really take pride in that and I try to focus on getting the rebounds and the offense will follow.  I know that when I do get some open looks, I need to take them.  I’ve really been focusing on my role and helping my team get the win.  Our confidence has really improved over these last two games as we’ve really brought our own energy and played as a team.”
