NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware field hockey head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof is thrilled to officially announce that alumna Missy Woodie has returned to the program as a volunteer assistant coach.

“I am genuinely excited to be back at my alma mater and be able to make an impact on Delaware student-athletes,” commented Woodie. “To be given the opportunity to learn from such a knowledgeable and passionate coaching staff is a rare treat.”

Woodie was a four-time All-CAA player during her tenure with the Blue Hens from 2007-10. She saw action in 74 games in a Delaware uniform and finished tied for seventh all-time in UD history with 20 assists.

“As a program, we are privileged to have Missy back on the coaching staff,” Van de Kerkhof stated.  “After utilizing her qualities as a student-coach in 2011, we are fortunate to welcome her back. It is very clear that she is not only an established and proud UD field hockey alumna herself, but more importantly, that she truly cares for and wants the best for the Blue Hens field hockey program.

Van de Kerkhof continued, “Missy is very passionate as it relates to coaching field hockey and teaching youngsters. To be in the position to welcome her energy and drive to our program is something I am very thankful for and as a program, we truly appreciate.”

Woodie rejoined the team mid-way through the Blue Hens’ historic 2013 season and her contributions were immediately present in the areas of practice, scouting, game day operations, and alumni networking.

The Fredericksburg, Va. native graduated from Delaware in 2012 with a degree in health and physical education. Following graduation, Woodie served as a graduate assistant coach at Longwood University, where she earned a master’s degree in adapted physical education.

Prior to returning to the Blue Hens this past October, Woodie was an assistant coach at West Chester University.
