Delaware Baseball Opens Three-Game Weekend Set with Rider Today In Maryland
BEL AIR, Md. -- The University of Delaware baseball squad will return to action this weekend when the Blue Hens host Rider for a three-game set at Harford Community College.
The series will begin today, March 7, when the Blue Hens (4-6) take on the Broncs (2-6) at 5 p.m. The series will continue with games on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Delaware is playing games at Harford CC while renovations continue at Bob Hannah Stadium. The renovations have been delayed due to the severe winter weather.
Senior right-hander Dan Gatto (2-1, 1.69 ERA) will take the mound for Delaware Friday while Rider will counter with Kurt Sowa (0-2, 4.82).
Delaware is coming off a 7-5 setback to Fordham in the final game of a three-game set last Sunday at Harford. Delaware banged out a season-high 14 hits and had five doubles but stranded 10 runners.
Rider, a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, looks to snap a five-game losing streak, most recently an 11-2 setback at Liberty on Sunday. The Broncs went 35-22 a year ago.
Delaware is led offensively by rightfielder Norm Donkin (.385 avg., 4 RBI), third baseman EJ Stoltzfus (.306), and second baseman Zach Lopes (.300, 4 RBI). Lopes is batting .500 (7 for 14) over his last four games.
Rider is led offensively by Ken Kramer (.321) and Greg Fazio (.313).
The teams have met 84 times with Delaware holding a 64-20 advantage but will play for the first time since the 2008 season.
