Thirteen University of Delaware Athletes to Compete at ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this Weekend
The Blue Hens will wrap up a record-setting indoor season with 13 student-athletes scheduled to compete in eight different events. A total of 60 schools are scheduled to compete with Connecticut returning as the team champion. Delaware placed 14th a year ago for its best finish in school history.
The meet begins Friday with the heptathalon and continues Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Preliminaries will be held in most events Saturday with the finals scheduled for Sunday.
Participating for Delaware will be junior Toresha Foster in the 400 meters (Saturday at 4:15 p.m.), freshman Betsy Erlanger in the 1,000 meters (Saturday at 5:15 p.m), senior Lindsay Prettyman in the mile (Saturday at 3:35 p.m.), senior Michele Lambert in the 5,000 meters (Saturday at 5:40 p.m.), junior Latoya James in the 60 meter hurdles (Saturday at 3 p.m.), and junior Monica Hagenauer in the weight throw (Saturday at 3 p.m.).
Senior Paige Morris has qualified in the triple jump but will not compete due to an injury.
Delaware will also compete in the 4 x 400 meter relay (Saturday at 6 p.m.) and the distance medley relay (Sunday at 11:30 a.m.). Among the candidate to take part in the 4 x 400 meter relay for the Blue Hens are Breanna Nicholson, Foster, Kelley Donovan, Chelsi Campbell, Alex Carroll, and Tyler Jackson. Vying to compete in the distance medley relay are Emily Gispert, Jackson, Carroll, Prettyman, Katrina Steenkamer, Lambert, and Erlanger.
Prettyman and James both earned All-East honors a year ago at the ECAC meet when Prettyman was second in the 1,000 meters and James was second in the 60 meter hurdles. In addition, Foster placed 21st in the 400 meters and Lambert was 15th in the 3,000 meters at the 2013 ECAC meet.
