RICHMOND, Va.  --   University of Delaware senior Alana Pantale, who won two events and finished third in two others to lead the Blue Hens women’s outdoor track & field squad to the team title at the Delaware Open on Saturday, has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Pantale, a health behavior science major at Delaware with a minor in health physical activity and disability studies, was one of five student-athletes honored by the league and shared Field Athlete of the Week honors with Northeastern’s Nicole Genard. UNCW senior Meena Reid was named CAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, Northeastern sophomore Donovan Henry was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and UNCW junior Cam Walton garnered Men’s CAA Field Athlete of the Week.
A native of Wayne, N.J. (Wayne Valley High School), Pantale was outstanding in the Blue Hens’ first event at the school’s newly-renovated track at Grant Stadium as she won two field events and finished third in two more last weekend.

Pantale won the shot put (44-feet, 4.75-inches) and the discus (147-4), with the later event equaling the farthest distance in the league this season on top of qualifying for ECAC standards. Pantale recorded back-to-back third place finishes in the hammer (149-3) and javelin (127-11) to round out the solid weekend showing.

She helped Delaware capture first place team honors at the event as the Blue Hens took home 14 first place finishes.
Delaware will continue action this Saturday when the Blue Hens compete at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va.
