HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Amira Idris captured both the long jump and triple jump, Lindsay Prettyman broke her own school record in winning the 800 meters, and the University of Delaware won four other individual events en route to capturing the team title at the James Madison Invitational Saturday evening.

Delaware earned 201.5 points in the four-team competition, edging runner-up Navy which had 195.5 points. Host James Madison was third with 175 points followed by Richmond with 76 points. Delaware will return to JMU for the Colonial Athletic Association Championships May 2-3.

“We had some really good performances today,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. “To win against quality programs like James Madison, Navy, and Richmond is a great set up for our conference championship in two weeks. We have good momentum heading into the CAA Championships this year.”

Idris was the meet’s lone double winner as she captured the long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 1.5 inches and won the triple jump with a distance of 38-8.25. Her distance in the long jump qualified her for the ECAC Championships in May at Princeton. Delaware’s Latoya James (100m hurdles), Prettyman (800m), Alana Pantale (hammer), and Katrina Steenkamer (3,000m) also qualified for the ECAC meet thanks to their performances Saturday.

In addition to Idris’ two wins, Delaware also captured five other first place finishes as James won the 100m hurdles (14.08), Pantale won the hammer (168-4), Prettyman won the 800 meters (2:10.4), Steenkamer won the 3,000 meters (9:52.04), and Alyssa Kennedy was the winner in the 5,000 meters (17:28.14). Prettyman’s time in the 800 meters broke her own school record of 2:10.92 set in 2013.

Delaware posted five other second place finishes, seven third place showing, six fourth place performances, and seven fifth place showings.

Placing second for the Hens were Chelsi Campbell in the 400 meters (56.86), Tyler Jackson in the 100 meters (12.37), Katie Deinert in the 5,000 meters (17:32.41), Kelsey Evancho in the high jump (5-1), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Campbell, Kelley Donovan, Michele Simmons, and Megan O’Dell (3:56.15).

Delaware will compete at the annual Penn Relays this week and will also host the Delaware Classic on Saturday, Apr. 26, at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
