POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- Blue Hen senior Marc Oliveri sits in fourth place while the University of Delaware men’s golf team is tied for seventh on Sunday following the first round of the Old Dominion Outer Banks Intercollegiate.

The Blue Hens posted a 288 team score during Sunday’s opening round, ending the day tied for seventh place out of 18 squads. Akron leads the field with a 279 score, while Ball State is second at 281 and the host Monarchs are third with a 282 score.

Oliveri carded a career-low three under par round of 68 on the par 71, 6,550-yard Kilmarlic Golf Course, and is just one shot out of the lead heading into Monday’s round. J.B. Williams of Akron, Pablo Heredia Iglesias of Bowling Green, and Andrew Reynolds of La Salle each fired four under par 67 rounds on Sunday to end the day tied for first place.

UD juniors Kieran Purcell and Jack Gianniny each shot two over par 73 rounds on Sunday, and are tied for 31st place in the standings. Junior Blaine Lafferty is tied for 40th place after his three over par 74, while sophomore Mark Benevento carded a seven over par 78 to end the day tied for 70th place.

The second round of the three-day invitational will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
