Delaware Standout Camp, Kiely to Compete at USA Swimming Nationals this Week
ATLANTA -- The University of Delaware men’s swimming team will be represented by two standouts at one of the nation’s premier events this week.
Blue Hen senior Cory Camp and sophomore Asher Kiely will be competing at the 2016 AT&T Winter National Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech University. The event, which attracts the top swimmers in the nation on both the men’s and women’s side, will run from Nov. 30 until Dec. 3.
Camp, a co-captain from Olney, Md. (Blake High School), will be competing in the 500 freestyle trials on Thursday beginning 9:28 a.m. and in the 200 freestyle trials on Friday starting at 10:30 a.m.
Kiely, a sophomore from South Kingstown, R.I. (South Kingstown HS), will be taking part in the 100 backstroke trials on Friday beginning at 11:11 a.m. and in the 200 backstroke trials on Saturday beginning at 9:20 a.m.
"Asher and Cory are coming off some outstanding swims this past weekend which should set them up for a good meet at Nationals,” said Delaware head coach John Hayman. “We will be competing against the best swimmers in the country at Winter Nationals. Cory has been to this meet in years past so he knows what it takes to compete at this level. This will be Asher's first Winter Nationals but he has always risen to the occasion when we get to the big meets."
Camp, the Colonial Athletic Association 500 freestyle champion in 2015 and runner-up in the event in 2016, swam in three events at the 2015 USA Winter Nationals and had a top finish of 34th in the 400 individual medley. He also competed in the 1,500 freestyle and 400 freestyle.
Kiely placed fourth in both the 200 medley relay and in the 400 medley relay at the 2016 CAA Championships.
