NORFOLK, Va. -- The University of Delaware baseball team (0-5) received a great performance from sophomore lefty Brandon Walter but ultimately fell to Old Dominion (4-0), 2-1 Friday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

"Tonight was an old-fashioned pitching duel, just a shame we came up on the short end. That's five pretty good starts from our starting pitchers. Today (Brandon) Walter and (Ron) Marinaccio pitched well, now we just need the offense to match the pitching. This gang is going to grind it out, and I'm sure we're going to get it rolling soon. I feel it coming," head coach Jim Sherman said.

The lefty starter pitched six and one-third two run innings, allowing just six hits, but was undone by a pair of two-out singles by Kurt Sinnen in the first and third innings.

At the plate, the Blue Hens struggled to figure out Old Dominion starter Adam Bainbridge and reliever Sam Sinnen, who limited UD to just one run on eight hits.

After Bainbridge pitched five one-run innings, the Monarchs received four shutout innings from the younger Sinnen to close the game.

Offensively, Kevin Mohollen paced the Hens, going 2-4 with an RBI triple.

The Blue Hens left a pair of runners in scoring position in the fourth and a pair of runners in the sixth.

Delaware returns to the diamond Saturday when the Hens will face Saint Joseph’s. First pitch from the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex is set for 12 noon. Delaware junior Captain Nick Spadafino (0-0, 7.71 ERA) will oppose fellow righty Tim Brennan (0-1, 21.00 ERA).

Hen Scratchings:
· Mohollen has reached base in all five games this season
· Walter has now thrown at least six innings in 11 of his last 14 starts
· Ron Marinaccio stuck out three batters in 1.2 innings of work
· Doug Trimble stole his fourth base of the year.
