MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team closes out its 2016-17 regular season this weekend when the Blue Hens compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship at Salisbury Country Club.
The Blue Hens are one of nine teams competing at the conference championship, along with Charleston, UNCW, James Madison, Elon, William & Mary, Drexel, Towson and Hofstra. The 54-hole tournament will begin at 8 a.m. all three days, with straight tees on Friday and Saturday and split tees on Sunday. The winning team and the individual champion will advance to the NCAA Regionals in May.
Delaware, led by 16th-year head coach Mike Keogh, will be looking to improve on last year’s seventh place finish at the championship.
The Blue Hens have placed among the top six teams in all but two of their tournaments this year, including capturing the team title at the season-opening Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational and finishing third in three others.
UD junior Jack Gianniny leads the Blue Hens with a 73.56 average round and four top 10 finishes this season, while Marc Oliveri ranks second on the team by averaging 73.65 shots per round. Kieran Purcell has posted a 74.04 average round to go with three top 10 finishes while Blaine Lafferty, who has also competed in all 10 tournaments, is averaging 74.68 shots per round.
