WILIMINGTON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware committed seven errors in Friday night's 16-5 Colonial Athletic Association baseball loss to host UNCW at Brooks Field.

Delaware allowed nine unearned runs in the loss, including three first-inning runs and four eighth-inning runs.

Despite the loss, Delaware third baseman Diaz Nardo went 2-4 with a pair of RBI and centerfielder Kevin Mohollen also went 2-4 with a pair of runs scored.

“Tonight was an extremely disappointing performance,” Delaware head coach Jim Sherman said. “We played poorly in all aspects of the game. Heading into tomorrow it will be interesting to see how we respond. We've been playing way too well to let tonight carry over into tomorrow. I look forward to seeing our best tomorrow.”

The Blue Hens (23-16, 9-7 CAA) and Seahawks (20-21, 8-5 CAA) were tied 4-4 heading to the bottom of the fourth before defense miscues really cost the Hens.

UNCW added a run in the fifth, three runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and four runs in the eight to defeat Delaware. All four runs in the eighth were unearned as was one of the runs in the sixth.

On the mound, UNCW starter Alex Royalty allowed just one hit over the final four innings of his seven-inning outing. The righty retired 13 out of the final 14 batters he faced.

The two teams will continue the series Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Delaware senior lefty Kevin Milley will face off with UNCW RHP Logan Beehler. The game will be streamed live on the UNCW Digital Network with coverage beginning at 1:45 p.m.
