NEWARK, Del. -- Blue Hen junior righthander Jordan Cargile fired a seven-hit shutout as the University of Delaware softball team completed a thrilling weekend sweep of UNCW by posting a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium to qualify for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.

Delaware, which recorded a pair of one-run victories over the Seahawks on Saturday, finishes its regular season at 24-27 overall and 10-11 in league play.

The Blue Hens have earned the fifth seed in the conference championship, and will take on fourth-seeded UNCW (31-16-1, 10-10 CAA) again on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the double elimination tournament's opening game at JMU's Veterans Memorial Park.

The Dukes earned the top seed, while Hofstra will be the second seed and Charleston will be the third seed.

It took Delaware just three batters to take the lead on Sunday, as Leanna Gearhart led off the bottom of the first with a triple to rightfield and one out later Mariah Kondravy ripped an RBI single into right.

Cargile (left) would do the rest, allowing seven hits and one walk while improving to 17-14 and recording her fourth shutout of the season.

The Seahawks had their best chance to score in the top of the fifth inning, when after two outs Nella Chamblee doubled, Kelsey Bryan singled and Lauren Moore walked to load the bases. But Cargile then got Rachel Willis to pop out to Gearhart in shallow leftfield to escape the jam.

After retiring UNCW in order in the sixth and getting the first two batters of the seventh Chamblee singled to leftfield, but Cargile then caught a pop up hit by Bryan to set off the Delaware celebration.

The Blue Hens, who are scheduled to play two games on Wednesday in Harrisonburg, will be making their second consecutive appearance in the conference tournament, and their fifth trip in the last seven years.

Game Notes:
• Gearhart's triple was her first of the season and the 20th of her career, two shy of the school record
