Welcome to the fourth installment of This is How I Train.

Every Tuesday and Thursday during the preseason, we will feature a member of the Blue Hen football team and learn a little more about what motivates them to excel.

Today we meet Thomas Jefferson, the charismatic junior running back with the famous namesake.

Junior • Running Back • Prospect Park, N.J. • Passaic Tech • Criminal Justice Major

Fourth-year member of the squad as a junior running back • former Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year who teams with fellow junior Kareem Williams to give Delaware one of the most productive backfields in the CAA • All-CAA candidate • third-year regular who has played in 22 career games with 12 starts and carried 318 times for 1,590 yards (5.0 avg.) and 13 touchdowns • has also caught 18 passes for 153 yards • big, explosive running back with great speed • ranks No. 30 on all-time Delaware rushing list and needs just 410 yards to become only the 17th player to reach 2,000 yards • has surpassed the 100-yard rushing plateau five times in his career • one of the team's most charismatic players • rushed for 700 yards and six touchdowns during the 2016 season with a season-high 141 yards vs. Towson.

It's not about me: "The only goal I have is winning the CAA championship and moving on to the national championships. I think that goes across the board with every running back we have in the room. We just want to be as successful as we can be in all aspects of the game and just do our job. It's not really about me, it's about the team. If we win the CAA championship and I score one touchdown and rush for 100 yards (for the season) I would feel that was the most successful season I could ever have. What's great to me is it's a team a sport and not about me."

Loving the energy: "Coach Rocco has been amazing. He comes with so much positive energy every day and he helps the team stay positive in all aspects. You can't get better than that. Everything is clicking, practice has been smooth, and we keep stacking days. We can only go up from here!

Bonding, James Bonding: "I really enjoy being able to hang out with the team during preseason. We are getting close, meeting the younger guys, and the younger guys are acclimating with us. We are bonding."

He sings....and dances? My favorite class here at UD has been a theatre class called study of stage movement I had a few semesters ago. We got to get up in front of the class and act everyday. And it wasn't your normal acting. We were able to act as wild as you wanted to be. My best memory was getting the chance to sing and do the choreography to one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Youtubers - Steam Heat by gmcfosho. It's a really good song!"

We had to ask. Your favorite U.S. President?: "I'd have to say Barack Obama (you were thinking someone else?). From Day One I've been hearing about my name. There are no new jokes for it. It's OK though. No one is going to stop someone from mentioning it. You can make the joke and live your life. It doesn't bother me. But the thing that gets me is how many people actually really mistake Thomas Jefferson's and Thomas Edison's achievements. They are two different people who happen to have the same first name. They followed two different paths. It always surprises me. I've had people come up and tell l me that Thomas Jefferson created the light bulb."
