Heather Wiley joined the Blue Hens as a volunteer assistant coach in August 2017.

During her first season at Delaware, the Hens collected their fifth straight CAA Tournament crown while finishing the year with a 15-5 overall record and going undefeated (5-0) for the second straight season. Delaware ranked in the Top 10 of nine NCAA statistical categories (scoring average, goals per game, goals against average, scoring margin, winning percentage, assists per game, points per game, save percentage, defensive saves) and 15 CAA categories while setting the school-record with 13 defensive saves.

“I am very excited to join the UDFH coaching staff this fall,” remarked Wiley upon her appointment. “It is a privilege to be working with and learning from some of the most driven and knowledgeable coaches in the country, and I am grateful for the opportunity to join them and the Blue Hens student-athletes in getting better each and every day. Having grown up just a few miles from the University of Delaware, it is great to see how the program has grown and excelled over the years. This makes it even more exciting and special to be able to contribute to and be a part of UDFH this season.”

A defensive back and four-year letter winner at Wake Forest University from 2013-17, Wiley brings a multitude of postseason experience to the Hens as she helped the Demon Deacons claim the 2014 ACC title in addition to three NCAA Tournament appearances. During her career, she saw time in 76 games while earning a role in the starting lineup for 48 contests under head coach Jennifer Averill.

A three-time NFHCA All-Academic Team honoree, Wiley also spent time working with the Demon Deacons Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Athletes in Action and as a teacher’s assistant at Ibraham Elementary School.

A native of Elkton, Md., Wiley graduated from Wake Forest in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with minors in journalism and communication. As a member of the field hockey team at Caravel Academy, Wiley was a Second Team All-American (2012) while also garnering First Team All-State accolades twice. She helped lead the Buccaneers to the best season in school history in 2012 as Caravel reached the Delaware state semifinals.
