ELON, N.C. – As far as collegiate debuts go, this one was pretty special.

University of Delaware freshman Kelly Wesolowski put in an impressive performance in her first collegiate cross country meet as she stormed past the field and easily took first place at the Elon Opener Saturday morning on the Elon Cross Country Course.

The White Hall, Md. native covered the four-kilometer course in 14:19 to easily outdistance runner-up Famke Heinst of High Point by 17 seconds.

Wesolowski was joined in the top 10 by teammate Liz McGroarty, who placed sixth with a time of 14:48. Together they helped the Blue Hens place sixth out of 12 teams with 109 points.

Host Elon took the team title with 40 points followed by North Carolina (62), High Point (64), College of Charleston (92), Delaware (109), Campbell (175), UNC Greensboro (201), UNCW (236), North Carolina A&T (250), UNC Pembroke (358), Meredith (358), and Averett (400).

Also for Delaware, Maddie Berman placed 38th (15:42), Stephanie Bazan was 71st (15:45), Analise Kaminski was 38th (16:01), Leanza Lopez finished 41st (16:03), and Angie Spadaccini was 45th (16:09).
