WORCESTER, Mass. The University of Delaware men’s soccer team behind two goals from senior Carlos Perales defeated Holy Cross University 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Smith Stadium.

The Blue Hens (2-0-1), took a 1-0 lead Sunday on Perales’ 30th minute free kick goal. Delaware doubled its lead in the 60th minute when Chad Poarch was dragged down inside the Crusaders (1-1) 18-yard box. The foul earned the Hens a penalty kick, which Perales drilled into the left side of the net.

Junior goalkeeper Todd Morton earned his second clean-sheet of the season, recording seven saves. The preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association selection lowed his 2017 goal’s allowed average to just 0.31.

Delaware returns to action this Wednesday afternoon at Villanova. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. from Higgins Soccer Complex.

Head Coach Ian Hennessy:
“Today was a well-balanced effort and victory over a well-coached and disciplined Holy Cross team. I was very pleased for the group, and was impressed with our ability to move between game phases when we needed to. Carlos was excellent and showed terrific leadership pacing us to our first road win of the season.”

• Sunday was the first ever meeting between Delaware and Holy Cross.
• Delaware improves to 2-0 this season when scoring multiple goals, and has now outscored its opponents 5-1 this season.
• The Blue Hens are now 2-2 in penalty kick attempts this season.
• Perales registered his first career multiple-goal game Sunday. His two goal output equaled his total from a season ago. He is the first Blue Hen to record multiple goals since Guillermo Delgado scored twice against Maryland Oct. 25, 2016.
• Morton has now allowed just one goal in 290 minutes of action.
• Morton improved his save percentage to .938, which would have placed him 38th in the nation entering today’s action.
