HAMILTON, N.Y. -- UD sophomore Jack Melville tied for third place while the University of Delaware men’s golf team finished seventh as the Blue Hens opened their 2017 fall season this weekend at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational hosted by Colgate.

Delaware enjoyed its lowest round of the weekend by carding a 299 on Sunday, moving up two spots to finish in seventh place out of 16 teams with a three-round total of 904. North Dakota State captured the team title with an 884 score, while Cornell finished second at 886 and Penn was third at 892.

Melville shot a career-low two under par round of 70 on Sunday on the par 72, 6,834-yard Seven Oaks Golf Club course, tying for third place in the individual standings with a two over par 71-77-70-218. He fired six birdies and added 10 pars during his impressive final round of the tournament.

Jack Gianniny recorded a three over par 75 on Sunday to tie for 13th place with a six over par 75-72-75-222, while Kieran Purcell also fired a 75 during his final round and tied for 41st place at 78-77-75-230, 14 over par.

Bobby Diforio tied for 55th place with an 18 over par 81-74-79-234, while RJ Wren carded a 25 over par 81-81-79-241 to finish in a tie for 75th place.

Josh Goldenberg of Penn earned medalist honors by finishing at one under par, while Mike Graboyes of Cornell finished two shots back.

Delaware is back in action next weekend when the Blue Hens compete in the Cornell Invitational at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca, N.Y.
