COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Delaware women’s tennis team opened play Friday with a day full of action at the Bedford Cup, hosted by the University of Maryland at the College Park Tennis Center.
Sophomore Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) and junior Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) each went 1-0 in singles action following first round byes to advance in the championship bracket Saturday.
Pilkington collected the 6-4, 6-2 victory over VCU’s Noumea Witmus while Komer kicked off the season with a 6-1, 7-5 rout of Virginia Tech’s McKenize Collins.
Annie Jaskulski (Wilmington, Del./Friends) was also victorious for the Blue Hens as the junior defeated Precious Udofe (Coppin State), 6-2, 6-2, in the round of 64.
In the doubles bracket, Pilkington paired with senior Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) for the 6-3 decision over Georgetown’s Daphne De Chattelus and Anna Shore.
Jaskulski and classmate Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) also posted a 6-3 victory against Casey Marx (Georgetown) and Barbora Vasilkova (Towson).
