WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Blue Hen sophomore Bailey Pearlman slammed a career-high 14 kills as the University of Delaware volleyball team wrapped up action at the GW Tournament with a three-set victory over Holy Cross Saturday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center.

Delaware, which won two of three matches at the invitational to improve to 2-8 on the year, captured the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-18. Holy Cross, which dropped its fourth straight match, fell to 3-10 on the campaign.

Pearlman led all players with 14 kills against just three errors on 26 swings, hitting .423 for the match. Brooke Robertson added 10 kills and a .364 attack average, while Maria Bellinger narrowly missed her third consecutive double-double with nine kills and nine digs.

Abby Skryd handed out 23 assists while Courtnie Roberts added 15 for the Blue Hens, and Maddie Judge finished with a match-best 18 digs.

Katie Kerins and Emmerson Smith each led the Crusaders with eight kills, while Sophie VanSeveren added 18 digs.

Delaware led 22-20 late in the first set before taking the final three points, including the final point on a Pearlman kill, to take the early lead. The second set featured 12 ties, the final time at 19-19, but Delaware captured the next two points to take the lead for good before putting the set away on a Bellinger kill. UD used a six-point run to take a 10-6 advantage in the third set, leading the rest of the way before a Pearlman kill sealed the victory.

HEAD COACH SARA MATTHEWS
Our team was a lot more consistent this weekend. We have been talking about learning how to play harder for longer amounts of stretches, and we did that this weekend. Even though we swept today, I was a little disappointed in our lack of discipline at times. We will need to clean that up going into conference play. That being said, I am proud of their resiliency and finish. We have some great production from Brooke (Robertson) and Bailey (Pearlman) today. And Maria (Bellinger) had a great all around weekend. We are excited to get back in the gym and prepare for conference play.
