COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Delaware women’s tennis team completed play Sunday at the Bedford Cup, hosted by the University of Maryland at the College Park Tennis Center.
In consolation singles action, freshman Sarah Whited (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) defeated Georgetown’s Daphne De Chattelus, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 in the quarterfinals before falling to another Hoya, Sara Swift, 6-1, 6-2. Swift posted the 6-1, 6-0 victory over Delaware senior Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) earlier in the day.
In the singles main draw, sophomore Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) fell just short to George Washington’s Maria Siopacha, 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 while junior Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) dropped a 6-1, 6-3 match to James Madison’s Elizabeth Norman.
On the doubles side, the JMU team of Norman and Abigail Amos posted the 6-2 victory over UD’s Komer and junior Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy). In the consolation draw, Shuren and Whited dropped the 6-3 decision to Virginia Tech’s Fallon Delp and McKenzie Collins.
