CENTREVILLE, Va. – Blue Hen senior Jack Gianniny finished in second place while the University of Delaware men’s golf team tied for second as UD concluded play at the George Mason Patriot Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

The Blue Hens, who posted scores of 288 and 290 on Monday, carded a 298 during Tuesday’s final round to tie for second place out of 16 teams with a three-round total of 876. Appalachian State captured the team crown with an 873 score, while Delaware and Florida Gulf Coast each finished three shots back.

Gianniny fired his third consecutive one under par 71 on Tuesday on the par 72, 7,071-yard Chantilly National Golf & Country Club course, placing second in the individual standings with a three under par 71-71-71-213. The senior birdied the third, 13th and 17th holes while adding 13 pars during his final round of the tournament.

Fellow senior Kieran Purcell shot a three over par 75 on Tuesday, tying for sixth place with a one over par 68-74-75-217. Purcell recorded birdies on the second, seventh and 15 holes during his final round.

Blaine Lafferty tied for 33rd place with a nine over par 73-71-81-225 while Jack Melville, who birdied four of his first six holes en route to a 74 on Tuesday, tied for 44th place with an 11 over par 79-74-74-227.

Christian Chapman tied for 53rd place at invitational by carding a 14 over par 76-76-78-230 while Matt Bastian, playing as an individual, fired a 21 over par 77-79-81-237 to finish in 75th place.

Tripp Summerlin of Appalachian State earned medalist honors with a seven under par 67-72-70-209, finishing four shots ahead of Gianniny.

Delaware returns to action in three weeks when the Blue Hens compete in the Elon Phoenix Invitational at Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C. on Oct. 16-17.
