NEWARK, Del.Jeanette Bendolph led the Blue Hens with a fourth place finish in the six-kilometer race as she covered the course in 23:56.50 at the University of Delaware Blue & Gold Invitational on Saturday at White Clay Creek State Park.

Bendolph, who raced in this event for the third year in a row, placed two positions better than her sixth place finish last year in a strong field. It was clear that Bendolph showed up with a plan.

Delaware placed second out of the eight teams, finishing with 42 points. Seton Hall won the team title with 23 points followed by Delaware. Delaware Track Club finished third followed by Georgian Court, Wilmington (Del.), Mercer Community College, Holy Family, and Delaware Tech. 

In the bottom half was Wilmington with 138 points, Mercer County CC with 156 points, Holy Family with 170 points, and Delaware Tech CC with 221 points. Seton Halls’ Christia Rutkowski won the individual title with a time of 22:47.50.

Delaware had two other top 10 finishers in the race, Leanza Lopez (24:47.59) and Kathleen Dailey (24:47.89). Other runners cracking the top 20 for Delaware were Ashley Warokomski (25:07.05), Madeline Berman (25:10.49), Valerie Romero (25:11.87), and Molly Doyle (25:20.80).

In the men's eight-kilometer race, Seton Hall took team honors with 24 points followed by Wilmington, Delaware Track Club, Holy Family, Georgian Court, Delaware Tech, and Dominican. Seton Hall's Jarod Moser won the race in a time of 26:39.59.

The Blue Hens return to action on October 14 for the Pre-National Invitational in Louisville, Ky.
