BLACKBURG, Va. – Just one Delaware doubles team was in action Friday as the Blue Hens kicked off play at the 2017 ITA Atlantic Regional, which is hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Junior Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) and senior Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) paired for the 8-3 loss to Old Dominion’s Victoria Olivarez and Nataliia Vlasova.
Sophomore Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) and junior Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) had a first-round bye Friday in the doubles bracket.
Pilkington and Komer will take on Friday’s winner between Radford and Georgetown Saturday at 9 a.m.
The singles main draw will also begin on Saturday as Komer faces Maryland’s Ekaterina Tour and Pilkington will face Marshall’s Maddie Silver.
Head Coach Laura Travis
“With no-ad scoring and the brevity of an 8 game pro-set, getting out to a strong start is key.  We gave ourselves a chance with close scores in each of the first four games, but did not convert the necessary points.  We adapted and got on the board after being down 0-4.  In the end, it’s a couple of key shots at key times that determine the winner.  ODU played consistently well and that was the difference maker today.  I’m confident we will take the lessons learned from this experience and use them to our advantage in the future.”
