NEWARK, Del. – A near triple double for Samone DeFreese (Bergenfield, N.J./Berkshire (Mass.)) wasn’t enough as the Blue Hens dropped an overtime heartbreaker, 85-79, to Boston University at the Bob Carpenter Center Sunday afternoon.

The sophomore collected career highs of 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in 43 minutes of action as Delaware fell to 2-2 on the year.

Junior Nicole Enabosi (below right; Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) added her 23rd career double double with 19 points while tying a career-best 17 rebounds.

Sophomore Bailey Kargo (Greensboro, N.C./Walter Hines Page) and senior Makeda Nicholas (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) also logged double figure points with 12 and 11, respectively. Sophomore Abby Gonzales (at left; Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) amassed a career-high 10 assists to go along with eight points and six rebounds.

In a game that featured 16 lead changes and eight tied scores, the Hens posted just one field goal in the overtime period, a three-pointer from Kargo with 4:08 remaining in the game.

Katie Nelson led BU (2-1) with 25 points and seven assists while four total Terriers saw double figure scoring.

POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Natasha Adair
“This is a game that we should have won as we were in the best position to win. There are no excuses however and my hat goes off to an experienced Boston University team. You don’t get to overtime without the grit and toughness that my team showed. But, there’s a whole other level of finish and focus when you get to overtime, and I think that went away in that extra period. When it’s winning time, you have to value the ball, make your free throws, rebound and make stops. Down the stretch, and especially in overtime, we were exposed in those areas.”
